Our Mission

Local Food Heroes brings communities together to fellowship through agriculture, grow sustainable food systems, and share hope and knowledge. Based at Veterans Haven North in Glen Gardner, NJ, our flagship Garden Education Center serves as a training ground where veterans rediscover their sense of purpose through sustainable farming practices.

What We Do

We’ve transformed unused spaces into productive gardens where veterans learn market gardening skills, business development, and sustainable farming practices. Our comprehensive training approach includes:

  • Hands-on agricultural education through our structured workshop program
  • Business development support for veterans interested in agricultural careers
  • Community engagement connecting veterans to food pantries and local markets
  • Sustainable farming practices that build resilient local food systems
  • Ways to source free compost materials from your community
